“I just love Alabama Piano Gallery! Everyone there is so hospitable and knowledgable. It is a delight to book my students’ recital at their beautiful hall! If you are at all looking for a piano, this is where you need to be. Let Jon and Kevin know your budget and needs, and they can shop for you and offer their expert advice! And stop by Noteworthy for all your books! It’s impossible to say enough about this wonderful place.”

“Alabama Piano Gallery has quickly established itself as a pillar within the piano—and even the music—community of the area. The level of service is superb, and their commitment to serve the community of pianists, teachers, and students both through instruments and through programming is tremendous, which is greatly appreciated and serves to fill a huge gap in the region.”

Kevin T. Chance, DMA
Assistant Coordinator of Keyboard Studies
University of Alabama

“As someone who has lived in Birmingham all my life and taught piano for over 30 years, I have found Alabama Piano Gallery to be an absolute treasure and most welcomed addition to our music community. Jon McClaran and his staff are very knowledgeable and so passionate about Steinway. The instruments in the store are of the highest quality and I am comfortable sending anyone to shop there. Our Conservatory holds our recitals in APG’s Recital Hall. What a thrill for our students to play such a magnificent instrument. The staff is most supportive and welcoming to us.

Finally, there are constantly events taking place that are educational and open to the community such as concerts, workshops, and music club meetings. I find myself at APG quite often.

Congratulations to Jon and his staff for all they have accomplished in such a short time.”

“I constantly find myself impressed by the impact that you and your team have had not only in Birmingham but all over the state of Alabama.

As you know I travel from time to time tuning and servicing pianos as well as just communicating with many types of people. The biggest buzz in the piano world today is Alabama Piano Gallery. The name Steinway is once again back at the top where it should be among piano students, teachers, professors and professionals alike. The programs and classes are impacting our community and building trust once again!

I am proud to be affiliated with you and your team.”

“What a pleasure it is to send a positive recommendation these days!

Alabama Piano Gallery has been nothing short of a breath of fresh air for our entire area.

The atmosphere at APG is positive, comfortable, and inviting.

Jon and the entire staff (Charlie wells, Robbie James, Ashley, Clyde and Janie) are all upbeat, helpful and on top of things. The activities offered frequently are a piano teacher’s dream!, concerts, workshops, programs for entertainment as well as continuing education. All these no-strings-attached events invite teacher camaraderie, buying music while we are there, and keeping on top of the latest equipment and pianos available. Beautiful and efficient showroom full of inviting pianos.

Jon and staff are a huge reason for the success of the store. No pretense, no pressure, great senses of humor, and just a pleasant place to come for whatever reason we need to meet our musical needs and hungers!

The recital hall is gorgeous, and Jon has made it readily accessible to all – we have to book way ahead because of the great demand. All families and students prefer his recital location to ANY (this is another great way to place these fabulous pianos right in the faces of MANY new prospective buyers).

So happy to be able to let you know how much the community needs and appreciates and needs this wonderful store and its super-staff.”

Jane Davis – Area Piano Instructor

“I have been in the piano business for almost forty years and I have never worked with a more professional company. When I am in the gallery as a tech, I love the first impression of people when they walk in. There has never been so much accomplished for the music community as you have in the short time the gallery has been open.”

Charlie Wells – Piano Technician

“Although Alabama Piano Gallery is new to Birmingham, it has quickly become a place where classical music is truly appreciated and supported. APG successfully acts as a community music center with all of the countless free recitals and workshops they offer. The staff is very friendly and professional. I’m a local piano teacher, and my students love to perform there!”

Tatiana Kasman – Piano Instructor

“The Alabama Piano Gallery is a combination of elegance and professionalism. It is my favorite performance venue in Birmingham.”
Dr. William DeVan – Professor of Piano & Steinway Artist

“Alabama Piano Gallery is a wonderful addition to the musical community of Birmingham and the surrounding area. The store is excellently maintained and staffed and the performance/workshop/lectures/discussions that are offered make it a very prominent venue for students, teachers and performers. The pianos are nicely arranged without giving the impression of being cluttered. Noteworthy Sheet Music is an added bonus.”

Dr. Anthony Pattin, pianist – Professor Emeritus of Music – University of Montevallo (an All- Steinway School)

“The Alabama Piano Gallery has been a wonderful boon to the Birmingham musical community in so many ways. It has provided workshops for piano teachers, has presented local pianists in marvelous performances, has provided performance and recital venues for teachers and students and has taught us much about the Steinway tradition and Steinway artists. With its sister store, Noteworthy, it is now an integral part of our lives and is assisting us to be better teachers, performers and listeners.”

Dr. Patricia Fitzsimmons

“The Alabama Piano Gallery is a beautifully appointed and well-managed establishment, with a level of community outreach that is unusually high. Together with its separate but space-sharing music store, Noteworthy, musicians in Birmingham and throughout the state have access to and are grateful for services and products that have been sorely needed for many years.”

Dr. Ronald Shinn – Professor of Piano – Samford University

“I’m so impressed by how quickly the Gallery has become such an integral part of the musical community in the Birmingham area. Jon’s “can do” attitude, openness and willingness to serve the needs of students, teachers and community members is remarkable. The addition of Noteworthy as THE place for students and teachers to buy classical music further strengthens the ties. The Gallery is a wonderful and much-needed part of music-making in central Alabama.”

Dr. Cynthia MacCrae – Professor of Piano – University of Montevallo

“I am impressed with your gallery and the entire experience purchasing our recent Boston grand for the College. We are so fortunate to have your expertise as a Steinway dealer in Birmingham”

Dr. Lester Seigel – Professor of Music – Birmingham Southern College

“I am impressed with the active and dynamic setup at APG which contributes significantly to the pedagogical and performing arts scene. In addition to offering an incredible array of high profile artists and clinicians, APG also highlights local and regional musicians in performance and workshop settings. Their doors are open for all, and everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the APG family.”

I find the greatest strength of the Alabama Piano Gallery to be its reach to the musical community. The store is involved in presenting recitals and workshops, accommodating teachers requests with student performances in the elegant recital hall, and an general, being a community hub for musical activity. The in-store sheet music department further centers in the store and assisting pedagogues with their needs. John McClaran is the central nervous system of this store. He is adept at assisting customers and accommodating their various needs, whether it be pianos, services, or information. Musicians are made to feel welcome and are encouraged to present any needs that they may have resulting in an active pursuance of solutions to those needs by the stores personnel. I personally am greatly pleased with the store thus far and it’s role as a vital cog in our musical community.

Dear Jon: Thanks for making August brighter and more meaningful with the wonderful (and delicious) luncheon cum demo cum recital courtesy of Brandon and Bill and Ashley Mac and you and for Cynthia McRae’s wonderful presentation last evening. APG is doing great service to the musical community with all of these and that is deeply appreciated.

Best,
Pat Fitzsimmons
